Tips and tricks for your carefree holiday with the mobile home awning
A motorhome awning creates more living space
Motorhome awnings create space for a carefree holiday. Because with an awning for your motorhome, you have additional space and storage space. Through the large windows and doors, you can sit almost outside while you eat and enjoy nature. This works even if it is windy or raining. If you want to stay mobile, choose a self-standing awning that can be quickly removed from the car and put back in place.
Uncomplicated and quickly set up
Motorhome awnings are simply pulled or laid into the designated piping strip or rain gutter on the motorhome using a piping profile or sluice pole. You can choose from a number of models for the frame. There are poles made of very strong but heavy steel, light aluminium, fibreglass or consisting of air hoses that can be easily inflated.
Even more comfort in the motorhome awning
Many motorhome awnings offer a sewn-in floor, which ensures dry feet and prevents draughts which can pass under the motorhome. In the BIG VAN3 you also have a sleeping cabin included. Many ventilation options in the Tent Technology awnings make the room climate perfect. If you would like to spend a camping holiday with your motorhome, a suitable motorhome awning is simply part of the equipment. Depending on the depth and width of your motorhome awning, you gain a bedroom, kitchen or dining room. With the simple fastening by means of piping profile or sluice pole, a watertight transition between vehicle and awning is created.

Floor tarpaulin in the awning yes or no?
How do you use your awning?
- Mainly as a lounge?
- With a camping table and camping chairs or camping stools and only in dry summer?
Then a floor is not important, a tent carpet keeps the dirt out. The floor in the awning for motorhome stays clean. Do your children sleep in the caravan awning? Is the holiday destination not quite as dry? Then a suspended floor tarpaulin is useful so that you can get clean feet into the sleeping cabin. Condensation on the floor tarpaulin can easily be moved outside.
You have to decide for yourself which is the better alternative for you. A tent carpet, the suspended tent floor that you take out of the tent for cleaning? The firmly sewn tent floor in the bus awning, which is straight and taut and which you can simply sweep out? This is purely a matter of taste and depends on how the caravan awning is to be used. What you have to pay attention to:
- How do you connect your vehicle to the motorhome awning?
- Is the motorhome awning free-standing so that you can drive away for a short time?
Most modern awnings are designed in such a way that you can be left standing if you take a short trip to explore the surroundings. An exception is most rear awnings where the vehicle has the carrying capacity.
Water column - what is that? How interesting is the water column in the awning for Ducato, Jumper, Sprinter
Imagine a 2-metre high cylinder filled with water standing on your motorhome awning. This means it has a water column of 2000mm. It is easier to imagine it the other way round. If your awning holds 2 metres of water upside down, it will also reach the 2000mm water column. Who sets up his tent as a water reservoir? Ergo, the water column tells you how much pressure (weight) the wetness must exert to get through the tent membrane of your motorhome awning. The water column does not depend on size. The water column is a good guideline for the tightness of your awning for motorhomes. Ultimately, other additional factors are decisive for the watertightness of your motorhome awning and whether you spend your holiday in a dry place:
- Optimum and tight connection/lock between your bus and the tent.
- A tight outer tent must be supported by a good inner tent and a good tent floor.
- The coating of the bus awning is extremely important
- The quality of the processing, especially of the seams, is an important aspect
The water column is a good guide to determine the tightness. But it does not cover all aspects. For many years, Reimo has struck a good balance between an adequate water column, a good coating, good vehicle accessibility and a stable tent floor. Only a suitable overall package can ensure untroubled holiday enjoyment in cloudy weather!
Inflatable camper tents, do they work?
In short, yes! Inflatable motorhome tents work and very well. Reimo Tent Technology's inflatable motorhome awnings are often tested and are constantly exposed to the elements at the annual tent exhibition in early May and at various trade fairs. The long air tubes replace the poles and keep the inflatable motorhome awning upright. Hoses with overpressure valves ensure that no hose flies around your ears on hot summer days. The air pump included in the scope of delivery ensures a quick supply of air if the temperature drops.
Inflatable motorhome awning, and/or a free-standing driveaway motorhome awning? The choice is yours!
Air awnings are the latest generation of motorhome awnings: they use inflatable poles instead of tent poles that have to be connected together. In the new inflatable campervan awning, inflateable motorhome awning or inflateable caravan awning, the air tubes are filled in the shortest time possible using a manual air pump or an electric pump, thus providing the necessary stability. You save time during assembly and weight during transport.

Motorhome awning tip from Reimo:
Please test your awning together with your motorhome before your holiday. It is best to set up the entire ensemble for the test. This way you will have the procedure under control and know how big your vehicle including the awning is. You will also notice before your holiday whether, for example, various pegs from your last holiday are still missing or if anything else is missing. Before your trip, check early on whether your equipment is complete. It is not a good start to your holiday if tent poles, tent pegs and guy wires are still at home.
There is water in your motorhome awning?
Water in your motorhome awning can have many factors. Often it is condensation that collects on the floor of your awning. Many problems in the awning are caused by insufficient fresh air supply. Only rarely is the tent really leaking. During production, all tent skins and seams are thoroughly impregnated. However, if the tent is touched frequently, if fastenings are added later (e.g. for the sleeping cabins) and in hard-to-reach kinks and places, the impregnation can lose its effect more quickly. However, this happens rather rarely. Do not let this spoil your holiday!
For a carefree holiday trip, we recommend having a bottle of seam sealant or something similar for impregnation in the rear garage. This is a simple, quick help for a small, annoying problem! If you need to treat the seams of your awning for motorhomes, please do so for optimum effectiveness, reinforced from the inside.
The basic rules for a carefree holiday with an awning motorhome
- Good ventilation in the motorhome awning is essential.
- Dry your sleeping bags during the day
- Take advantage of the ventilation possibilities in the awning.
Please remember to store your motorhome awning clean and dry after your holiday. Sand is the enemy of any coating. Use a special awning cleaner for cloth care in case of coarser soiling. Mould stains can be avoided if you only pack away your motorhome awning after it has dried thoroughly. With a little tender, love and care, your motorhome awning, motorhome tent, caravan awning or awning for motorhome will give you pleasure for many years to come.
How do you attach your awning?
You can attach the awning to the vehicle without drilling, with folding vacuum cups or clamping eyelet sets. In addition, wall eyelets, aluminium rails, clamping poles, Unirail, Highrail and Multirail offer further possibilities for fixing the awning.
We also offer many awning carpets in different sizes and qualities!
