Do I need a solar battery with 100 Ah, or do I need less or more power?
Solar battery 100 Ah is the most popular battery size for motorhomes, caravans, camping buses, summer houses and boats. This solar battery is a safe power source to operate or charge radios, mobile phones, torches or many other electrical devices. Because not everywhere has a shore connection or any other kind of power connection. With a 100 Ah solar battery, you normally have enough power available in your vehicle, independent of campsites and power sockets, to operate smaller consumers without any effort. The advantage: with the power connections in the motorhome, sailing boat, caravan or camper van, the battery can be charged or power can be drawn from the usual socket even when abroad.
The 12 V solar battery 100 Ah serves as a temporary storage for your generated energy. We recommend that you measure the size of your solar battery a little more generously. A 12 V 100 Ah solar battery should be sufficient for a minimum supply. The stored electricity can be used for a long time at any time, depending on the size of the solar battery.
Constant use is also guaranteed when the modules generate little or no electricity, for example at night.
Practical and inexpensive: Simply take two 12 V solar batteries 100 Ah and connect them in parallel, this way you get double the power at 12 V. If you connect the batteries in series, you get 24 V, for example for a truck. You can find more information on this in our installation guide!
Charging the 12 V solar battery for motorhomes, caravans, campers, sailing boats and garden huts
Since the solar cell does not always fully charge the solar battery, depending on the amount of sunlight, you should properly charge the solar battery with a conventional mains charger as often as possible. This will maintain the performance of your solar battery and you will get a lot of charge and discharge cycles from your solar-powered supply battery.
The life of your solar battery will be significantly extended if you always charge it properly! This is because broken 12V solar batteries are almost always caused by the conventional solar batteries not being charged properly after partial discharge. This then often results in a deep discharge of the solar battery, which greatly shortens, if not ends, the life of a 12V solar battery.
Attention: Gel solar batteries must be charged for at least 6-8 more hours, even if they are already full!!! A solar battery in a motorhome, caravan, on a boat or in a camper van can of course be recharged by the sun. However, if the days are dark and the charging power is too low, you don't have to stay in the dark.
The solar battery can of course also be charged via:
- the alternator with cut-off relay (81200)
- an automatic charger, e.g. the 10 A charger (80293)
- the mains connection
- or with a power generator
In most cases, there are appropriate mains connections for charging the solar battery in a marina, at the campsite or at designated places at service areas and parking spaces.

The built-in battery management system makes it almost impossible to charge the lithium solar batteries too quickly or to discharge the LiFePO4 solar battery too deeply. Solar battery AGM, the robust battery for solar in the motorhome
Solar batteries AGM are one of the various battery types for solar use in motorhomes. If you are looking for a 12 V service or solar battery with good cold-start capability, the AGM batteries optimised for this purpose are ideal as solar batteries. To control the charging processes and protect the AGM solar battery from overcharging, you also need a solar charge controller, an MPPT charge controller is optimal. This means that even if the AGM solar battery is damaged, no acid leaks out. The sponge (or rather the flow) also has a supporting effect and protects the lead plates in the AGM solar battery from shocks. Solar AGM batteries have a depth of discharge of up to 80%.
What are the advantages and strengths of the gel solar battery?
Gel solar batteries work independently of their position, are maintenance-free and closed. In gel solar batteries, only a small valve regulates the internal pressure when the charging voltage is too high. If this happens, the electrolyte evaporates and the solar battery becomes unusable. Therefore, you should also use a high-quality charger for the gel solar battery. Solar gel batteries can be stored for quite a long time and are cycle-resistant. Gel solar batteries (lead gel batteries) have thicker lead plates. This means that solar gel batteries can deliver electricity for longer than, for example, the solar acid battery. The solar gel battery can also withstand short-term deep discharges. If this happens, the solar gel battery must then be charged for at least 48 hours. A depth of discharge of 70% is possible.
Solar acid batteries, good performance at a favourable price
You don't have high demands on your solar battery? You only need a little power now and then? Then a solar acid battery is exactly what you need! The solar acid battery must be installed upright. Inside vehicles, it may only be connected in a closed, ventilated room. But if you keep an eye on the acid level of your, for example, Moll solar battery, you will have an inexpensive 12V solar battery that you can enjoy for a long time. For slow draw-off, such as for light in the garden shed, a water pump or similar, a Moll solar battery is made for the job. Solar acid batteries such as the Moll solar battery may only be half-discharged, but this should not be a problem for continuous operation, for example in the garden shed. Solar acid batteries have a depth of discharge of 50 - 60%.
